Medical Device Case Study – Teleflex

Teleflex was seeking an innovative and scalable solution to help streamline the training process for their UroLift devices. Together with FundamentalVR, a VR training program was launched on the adaptive platform, allowing urologists and Teleflex employees to remotely train in a VR immersive environment.

Background

Teleflex, a global leader in interventional urology, partnered with FundamentalVR to launch a VR training program for their UroLift® system. Through the FundamentalVR platform, a simulation was configured, offering comprehensive training within a virtual OR using a digital twin of UroLift for the surgical technique related to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This is currently in use to train HCPs and internal teams.

The simulation that is delivered through the FundamentalVR hardware agnostic software platform supports both Meta and HTC devices.

The Business Challenge

Teleflex was seeking an innovative and scalable solution to help streamline the training process for their UroLift devices. Together with FundamentalVR, a VR training program was launched on the adaptive platform, allowing urologists and Teleflex employees to remotely train in a VR immersive environment. The program also aided in demonstrating the UroLift devices’ potential to customers in an efficient and effective manner.

Results

FundamentalVR enabled an accurate and high fidelity immersive VR training simulation for UroLift®, delivered on the cost-effective and portable Meta Quest 2 and HTC Focus 3 headsets. FundamentalVR’s simulation offers a multitude of visual guidance, providing a “hyper training” experience for surgeons and internal teams, including a data dashboard to measure and report reach, usability, and efficacy of training.

Reported impact by Teleflex HCPs, internal teams, and new hires includes:

  • Improved information retention
  • Reduction in time taken to train
  • Cost savings on training and documented ROI
  • Improved procedure delivery

This has led to a reduction in the number of Trainer-Trainee engagements needed to get new hires proficient and decreased the frequency of Teleflex-Provider contact.

The UroLift training simulation has empowered Teleflex’s teams with the knowledge and flexibility needed to accelerate retention, reduce time to competency, and ultimately improve patient care as providers can practice in a safe environment built to increase confidence and competency.
