Ophthalmology Case Study – Orbis

Orbis International is a charity that brings people together to fight avoidable blindness. Fundamental Surgery is helping Orbis on their mission by supplying a HapticVR™ cataract procedure training simulation for use in low to middle income countries.

Business Challenge

Orbis needed a low-cost, effective way of safely training their surgeons. With doctors all over the developing world in remote places, they needed something portable but that would enhance the quality of ophthalmology practice.

Business solution

The Fundamental Surgery platform was configured in conjunction with Orbis’ key opinion leaders and the resulting cataract simulation employs the latest HapticVRTM technology, to create the precise sense of touch for this intricate procedure, allowing ophthalmic surgeons to acquire the necessary skills transfer. Using the portable nature of the platform, the simulation system was able to deployed easily and efficiently all over the world.
