Fundamental Surgery™ is an accredited education and simulation platform that takes advantage of readily available virtual reality software combined with cutting edge haptics (the sense of touch) to create a simulation system that can be used on any suitable VR enabled PC. The result is a simulation system that requires a hardware investment starting from as little as $16,000 and a simple ongoing licence fee.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The platform has been designed to operate on a station consisting of hardware available globally, off the shelf, and starts at $16,000 to buy. This is in comparison to other simulators that can cost over $200,000 to acquire. Each station then subscribes to a license for each available procedure; the annual price of each procedure license will be published in 2020.
WHEN WILL IT BE AVAILABLE? The first procedure that will be available on the platform is M6, MSICS. Orbis is now previewing the most important and complex part of that procedure, the Capsulorhexis. The platform will be rolled out in 2020.
HOW DO I ACQUIRE IT? Please fill in the form on this page to be kept up to date on information around preordering, availability and rollout plans for future procedures.
The platform was developed with funding from the Silicon Valley Orbis Innovation Fund, established by Susan and John A. Sobrato, from Dr. David F. and Victoria A. Chang, and from the ASCRS Foundation.
